R2 and C2 each had their first day of school last week. Of course, there was a lot of chaos that accompanied the preparation for this new beginning: shopping for clothes, shoes, emergency backpack supplies, filling out forms and more forms. Sigh. And this is only nursery school. Sigh. (You know, when you look at the word "sigh" enough, it stops looking like a word. But I digress.)
The morning of R2's first day, I was so organized! We had berry crepes for breakfast. No one was rushed. C2 would only eat flaxseed tortilla chips for breakfast, though. And he thought he could get away with eating them in the living room.
As part of the program they're in, on their first day mom or dad goes and stays the whole time with them. Only a portion of the class is there so that they have a chance to ease into the new routine. R2 went on Wednesday, and she chose Daddy to go with her. Which I was fine with until they drove away from the curb in front of our house. And then I wondered aloud to C2 why his sister thought she could get away with leaving her mother behind on the first day of school. Because my heart hurt. Just a little bit. She's in the oldest class this year, the big kahuna, you might say. Don't think for one minute that she's not aware of her new prestige.
Two days later, C2 had his first day of school. Ever. He didn't have a choice about who went with him.

What's up with turning down the berry crepes for flaxseed chips?
